And still more quotes from the classroom...

Gable: "My underwear has a pocket.  You can stick your hand right in there and touch yourself."

Carson J: "My dad has lots of games on his 'puter."
"Can I move?  The sun is beeping on my back and its really hot."

Yesterday was a HUGE day in the classroom.  Two students lost their teeth.  And ironically it was the same tooth on both of them.  I have this little envelopes to put their teeth in and stickers that say "I lost a tooth."  You would think that I gave them a million bucks.  They were so proud of it.  Carson M. kept holding it up and giving me one or two thumbs up without saying anything.  It was adorable.  I noticed that most of the other kids were trying to loosen their teeth after this.  It's quite hilarious.

Update

Yup the hot water is back.  Thursday was the magical day.  But when I got to my front door I noticed a paper stuck in the handle of my screen door.  And you know what that means: another boil order.  In case anyone was keeping track this is the fourth, maybe even fifth, boil order that they have put on the place since I moved in August.  So the hot water is back but I have to boil it if I want to use it for anything.  This is just crazy!

I decided that I'm going to leave the hot water running in my house till the summertime.  I can't take this no more!

AGAIN, yes that's right....AGAIN

Well my pipes are frozen AGAIN.  It was bitterly cold on Saturday night and I made sure to run my water over night so that they wouldn't freeze but when I left for church on Sunday morning I forgot to leave it running again.  By the time I got home from church they were already frozen, believe it or not.  I was really quite angry.  Well its been four days without hot water and now my cold water is running slow.  Today is my only hope of them thawing.  It supposed to be above freezing today and then go back below freezing for the next five days.  I did have someone come and look at it but they didn't have the right equipment to fix it and they suggested that I just wait till they thaw rather than pay someone to come and take five hours for them to work on it (which is apparently how long it would take).  So pray for warm weather today!

And it wouldn't be a true weblog entry if I didn't include some quotes from the classroom.

Gable: My butt hurts.

Me: Oh, did you fall down outside?

Gable: No, it hurts on the inside.

Me(scared of the answer)Oh? .

Gable: I have to go potty but it didn't work.

Me: Oh, well, maybe you can try after rest time.

After rest time...Gable: I just washed it out.  I drank some water and it just washed out.

Never Underestimate the Power of a Hot Shower

Well last week had to be the craziest week I have had in a long time.  Let's start at the beginning.

SUNDAY: I wake up at 6AM to get ready for first service and realize that it is only 53 degrees in my house.  It's supposed to be a nice warm 68.  To top it off I didn't feel well and the heat only got up to 57 or so the rest of the day.

MONDAY: Wake up at 6AM again.  Still no heat, only 53 degrees inside but 0 outside.  I feel like crap but I go to school anyway because it was only a half day and an open house for prospective families.  I come home in the afternoon because I have the heating/cooling guy coming out to check my furnace.  He spends 45 minutes fixing it and tells me that it was just a spider's web and thankfully doesn't charge me anything.  I spend the afternoon writing report cards.

TUESDAY: This was the only somewhat normal day of the week.  But not really because we were preparing for this big Feudal System day that we had planned and finishing report cards to be sent home that day.  Now let me tell you about these report cards.  No wait, we should call them by what they really are--report BOOKS.  Each child's report card is a book of 6-8 pages.  And you don't just write A, B, or C.  You have to write a plus, check or minus for each objective listed.  Wow, that takes forever.  Plus I said that I would make hats to represent the different classes of the Feudal System.  That was a project that I worked on after school and into the evening.

WEDNESDAY: Forgot to set my alarm for 6AM to get ready.  Instead I woke up at my 7AM alarm that reminds me to take my medicine.  I freak out and hop out of bed, meanwhile thinking I still have time to take a superfast shower and still leave my house by 7:30.  I go into the bathroom and turn the hot water on and nothing.  That's right folks, my pipes are frozen.  I have no hot water, at all.  I have cold water, but no hot water.  This happened once before so I wasn't surprised, just really really unhappy.  So I have to go to school grubby.  Fuedal System day.  We didn't do any of our regular classes and I had to help the kids make 4 different dishes for the Feast we were going to have in the afternoon.  That was insane.  Kids baking and cooking is always crazy.  Somehow we survived and I told the other teacher that we don't need to plan any more days like that for awhile.  And thankfully she let me take a shower at her house after school.

THURSDAY: Still no hot water.  Half day at school but parent/teacher conferences at night.  After the kids go home I head over to my friends house to take a shower again.  BEST SHOWER EVER!  It was hot, relaxing and I didn't have to hurry out like I usually do in the morning.  It was so nice.  Parent/Teacher conferences went well, no angry parents.  That's always good.

FRIDAY: STILL no hot water.  The other teacher took a personal day (I should have done that too).  So its just me and the sub.  The day went pretty well but during my lunch break I had to run over to my friend's house to take a shower.  I must say that despite how stressful it was to not have hot water, it was really nice taking showers in the middle of the day.  Then because I did that during my break I didn't have that time to grade papers like I normally do.  So I spent the rest of the afternoon grading like a madman trying to get it all done so I could send the papers home.  Again somehow I did it and got all the kids out of school relatively on time.

SATURDAY:  YET AGAIN, STILL not hot water.  The dishes had been piling up because of the lack of hot water so I finally broke down and boiled water just so that I could do the dishes.  About an hour after I finished them the ice must have melted in my pipes because suddenly I had water flowing freely through the hot water spigot and it was actually getting warm!  YAY!  I finally get to take a shower at my own house in my own bathroom.  The overwhelming stress of the week was over.

Can I just say that I don't want to have another week like that.

From the Classroom....Again

Hannah (my one kindergarten girl) says the most inappropriate things sometimes and they are always so random.  Before school today she ran up to me and said, "Don't let my brother get in the garbage!"  Then she proceeded to tell me, "My brother plays in the toilet.  He just lifts the seat up and sticks his hand in there and plays with the water."  Then I overheard her saying to the others, "He drinks from the toilet."  I'm hoping she is refering to a dog and it wasn't a continuation of the conversation she started with me.

She also is the one who, as you may recall, told me that, "One time, my sister pooped in the sink, cause she didn't know.  She didn't know."  I don't know where this stuff comes from but I'm sure her mom wouldn't want her telling other people.  The weird thing is she doesn't usually talk to me at all.  She's pretty quiet and keeps to herself.  But when she does have something to say it comes out all twisted and dirty.  And yet, she's always excited to tell me about it.  Makes me laugh.
